Black Lives Matter

Hey pups! This week for the HLP Photo Contest, we wanted to do a bit more of a pointed theme. The theme will be gray-scale, but for a few reasons, stick with me as I explain...

The country right now is in turmoil. We are seeing the BlackLivesMatter movement strike up again and this time for the biggest time ever, and we are watching history in the making every day. The conversation revolves around systematic racism, police brutality, and equity for all. Not simply equality (if you do not know this terminology, I urge you to do some research on it).

Right now the country is being divided. Whether it is through political leaders, social media, or dinnertime conversations, people are being called to pick a side, and the complexity of these problems is starting to get lost amongst the powerful yet sometimes confusing dialogue.

For those of you who do not know, grey scale means a picture without Color (sometimes called black and white). Let me be clear, myself and the BOR did NOT choose this theme to make a statement about black vs. white global citizens. Instead, we hope that our grey scale submissions can be a testament to how complex the world is and that in order to appreciate our brothers and sisters we need to be able to appreciate the Color around us, and try to be less divisive amongst ourselves, giving simple "yes" or "no" options.

Participators shown below showed their support for the BlackLivesMatter movement. Not ACAB, not political leaders, not rioting vs. looting vs. peaceful protesting. They are making a public statement that they believe that all lives cannot matter unless Black Lives Matter.

HLP is showing its allyship to marginalized communities, to trans communities, to POC, to BlackLivesMatter.
